Understanding Men’s Mental Health

Some men find it difficult to seek psychological support due to beliefs about needing to manage problems independently or concerns about discussing personal experiences. However, therapy does not require you to have all the answers or to discuss things before you are ready.

Psychological therapy provides an opportunity to understand patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and to develop practical strategies for managing difficulties more effectively.

Evidence-Based Psychological Approaches

Treatment is guided by evidence-based psychological approaches and is tailored according to your needs. These may include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on understanding the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours and developing strategies to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and unhelpful patterns.

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is an evidence-based approach commonly used for trauma and distressing experiences that continue to affect emotional wellbeing.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on skills for managing intense emotions, improving distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal relationships.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed approaches consider how past experiences may influence current emotional responses, relationships, and coping strategies.
