Is Therapy Right for You?
- How does Telehealth work, and do I need to download anything?
Telehealth sessions run via healthdirect’s secure, end-to-end encrypted video platform. You do not need to download or install software. You will receive an automated link via SMS or email; clicking this link opens the secure video portal directly inside your default web browser. - Is my personal and medical information secure?
Completely. Your information is managed within Halaxy, an electronic health record (EHR) system that complies with Australian privacy legislation and healthcare data standards. All clinical notes, case data, and personal files are securely encrypted. - Do I really need therapy, and how do I know if my problems are “serious enough”?
You do not need to reach a crisis point to benefit from therapy. Many people delay seeking support because they feel they should cope independently, but therapy is highly helpful whenever you feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, low, or notice persistent patterns you want to change. - What if my situation improves on its own — should I still book?
Sometimes difficulties do improve temporarily over time. However, if you notice ongoing patterns, recurring distress, or areas where you would like support, you can still enquire or book. You are never locked into long-term therapy. - What if I’m not ready to change yet?
It’s completely normal to feel ambivalent or unsure about change when you first consider therapy. Sessions can help you explore your current situation and feelings at your own pace, without any external pressure. - What if I feel embarrassed or worried about what others will think?
Concerns about stigma are very common. Therapy is a completely confidential, non-judgemental, and private space. Most people find that their initial anxiety or hesitation reduces significantly once they begin. - What if I am worried about being judged or labelled by my clinician?
It is completely normal to feel anxious about opening up to a professional. Our practice operates on strict clinical principles of safety, privacy, and objectivity. Your clinician’s role is not to judge your actions or reduce your experiences down to a clinical label. Instead, we work collaboratively to understand your unique situation and help you move forward in a secure, entirely non-judgemental environment. - What happens in the first session, and do I need to prepare anything?
No preparation is required, and you do not need to know exactly what to say. The first session is an initial intake assessment to help us understand what has been happening for you, what brings you in, and what you would like to work towards. Your clinician will guide the conversation gently. - What if I don’t know what to talk about or say?
That’s very common. Many clients start without a clear topic in mind. We will guide the conversation naturally and help you make sense of whatever feels important to you at the time. - What if I avoid talking about painful or emotional topics?
This is a very natural response. Many people avoid difficult material at first to protect themselves. Therapy does not require you to share everything immediately. We will always go at a pace that feels manageable and safe for you. - What if I’m worried therapy might bring up things I’m not ready for?
Therapy is not about forcing disclosures. You remain in total control of what you choose to talk about, and we proceed only when you feel safe and ready to explore those areas. - What if I get overwhelmed or emotionally flooded in a session?
It is common to worry about becoming too emotional. Therapy is designed to be safely paced and contained. We work collaboratively to keep you within a tolerable level of distress, and we use immediate grounding strategies if things feel too intense. - I feel uncomfortable being vulnerable with a stranger — is that normal?
Yes. Feeling unsure about opening up to someone new is a completely normal part of starting therapy. A key part of our early sessions is simply building trust and a genuine sense of safety at a pace that suits you. - How do I know if therapy is the right type for my situation?
If you’re unsure, that is exactly what the first session is for. We can discuss your unique concerns and work out together whether therapy is a good fit and what therapeutic approach may be most helpful. - How long does therapy take?
It depends entirely on your specific goals and what you are experiencing. Some people come for short-term support to navigate a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term therapy for deeper patterns. - Can I just book a single session to try it?
Yes, absolutely. Many clients start with just one initial session to see how it feels and ensure it is a good fit before deciding whether to continue.
